Vista Network Password Prompt
How can I get my Mac (OSX) networked to my PC (Vista)?
I’ve tried absolutely everything… it seems that they see eachother, however when you click on the PC’s icon on the Mac to connect to it comes up with a password prompt. There is no password on the PC and I’ve tried every possible combination for the name. When you type in the correct name it says that the PC is no longer available. Now, on the PC the Mac is showing up in Network Places… but it says “unknown device”. If you click or right click on it, it basically says that there are no properties available. Any ideas? New switch?
I just want to be able to transfer files between the two machines.
The basics are :
Vista is a new OS (well that’s what MS says) that does not play well with any other OS, even XP
Mac OSX is based on BSD and has a lot of proprietary Apple thrown in
To get a Mac to work on a Windows network you need to use SAMBA, an open source program that lets a Unix based machine (the Mac) work on a Windows Network
I believe the latest version of SAMBA has been upgraded to allow Vista machines as well
