If I re-install a mac operating system on my mac book- can I back up Microsoft Office?

I want to do a “clean re-install”on my mac book, so I can delete all these unwantred programs that are currently on there. The only trouble is that I want to keep Microsoft Office. Can I back this up somehow onto a flash drive? And if so does anyone know the system files I need to save and where to find them? Please help!

Microsoft Office uses an installer package so it’s doubtful that you’ll be able to backup the current Office installation and transplant it onto a freshly installed MacOS instance. The installer makes a number of changes during setup, changes that won’t happen if you simply copy Office to a flash drive then back into a new OS install. You’ll need to find the Office install files somewhere for this to work properly.

Another option is to use an uninstaller to cleanup some of the applications you don’t want (rather than an OS install). AppCleaner is free and will present you a list of all the applications you have, you click the ones you want to search on, it presents you a list of the apps and their related files so you can do a thorough cleanup without reinstalling MacOS. It’ll remove apps, plugins and widgets.
